Team driving job advice from an experienced Schneider team

Schneider is proud to employ successful teams from all different walks of life — spouses, siblings (like the recently featured Villarreal brothers), parent and child, friends and drivers with similar interests who meet through our Team Matching Program.

We recognize that Team driving creates a unique dynamic in the truck, so we recently sat down with spouses Tim and Angie, who have driven as a Schneider team for over 18 years, for a Facebook Live chat about Team driving jobs.

“I can tell you how to do your job, but I’d prefer to mentor you on how to live in the truck with each other, because that’s where it gets complicated being a team. But I’ll tell you right now, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.” -
Angie
Watch the full chat or read a few highlights below that.
  • On being a team:

“It’s nice having someone else there. Being together, getting to talk every day face to face, being able to have dinners together, when we need help backing up.” – Angie

“You can do a lot more with two people than you can with one.” - Tim

  • The key to success on a Team driving job:

“Planning is everything in this job. You have to have a plan to drive, to shower, to stop at a bathroom. It’s all planning.” – Tim

“Make a plan. Just winging it doesn’t work. … The doctor, the dentist, you have to plan that — as a team. Not one person gets to decide it all.” – Angie

  • On electronic logs:

“You don’t lie. You can’t overrun your logs, and they’re there to keep you safe, as well as the motoring public. Schneider has had electronic logs for years now, and we like them better than paper logs.” – Tim

“We still run just as hard as we did when we were on paper logs. We don’t have to worry about being legal. I’ve been inspected four times in the last 18 months, and they don’t even look at them because they know Schneider is legal.” – Angie

  • On miles:

“You’ll have all the miles you want. If you want to run 7,000 miles in a week, you can do that. … We’ve had 3,000-mile runs and 200-mile runs. It will vary, but you will get the miles and you will keep moving. Schneider keeps you moving.” – Tim

  • On Team driving with Schneider:

“Schneider compared to other companies, hands down, is the best by far at practicing what they preach as far as safety. …We like Schneider all around, everything about it so far, 18.5 years and counting!” - Tim
