Compliance Team Goes the Extra Mile During California Trip

Schneider Compliance Team Office Associate and Driver

Editor’s note: It takes lots of people behind the scenes to make Schneider an industry leader. Here’s just a taste of what a few office careers are like, and how one team goes the extra mile to support drivers.

In late July, my leader, Donna Schense and I took a trip out to California. Our goal was to observe the cutting-edge tablets being used by California drivers.

While on our trip, we were also able to sit in on driver tablet training (watch for an upcoming blog post about tablets), and chat with drivers to hear their feedback on the tablet and to see the technology actually in use during a ride-along. The California sites we visited were Moreno Valley, San Bernardino, Fontana and South El Monte. Our trip schedule looked like this:

A map shows the team's route with a stop at Moreno Valley on July 23, San Bernardino and Fontana on July 24, South El Monte on July 25 and 26 and finishing in Los Angeles.

During the training, we discussed expectations of Operations leaders and drivers. Everyone was engaged throughout the training, providing great insight and feedback, and asking great questions to help foster a better understanding and how to apply this knowledge to their roles going forward!

Going Above and Beyond to Understand the Driver Experience

The purpose of the driver ride-alongs was to gather feedback relating to the tablet experience. We spent a half day with each of the below drivers, running local routes and taking a trip to the nearby Intermodal rail yard. Both drivers are based out of the South El Monte facility.

In the hours that we spent with the drivers, we gained a better understanding of their role and the unique challenges of navigating heavy traffic in Southern California. Both drivers provided us helpful feedback on their tablet experience and shared that they love how easy it is to use! We’ve rolled out in-cab tablets for West Coast drivers, and we will soon be implementing them across the fleet, after incorporating feedback from this trip.

Schneider California Compliance Team Associates

The below is a picture of myself and Intermodal Driver Melvin Hernandez, who works out of South El Monte. He has been driving for Schneider for six years and recently as a training engineer for one year. He enjoys working for Schneider and is an amazing resource for new drivers with tablet-related questions.

Thank You to Operations and Drivers!

We’d like to thank Operations for hosting us on our trip to California. These associates are committed to ensuring continued success with tablet compliance! We’d also like to thank both drivers for allowing us to ride along and learn more about the driver experience — especially when it comes to the tablets. It is clear from our visit that we have a great group of office and driver associates and drivers working for this company!

Equipment and Technology Investments

Stay tuned for more info coming soon on tablets! In the meantime, take a look at all the other equipment and technology investments we’ve made — all of which required research and training like in Amanda’s story.
