You applied for a warehouse job and have been asked to go in for an interview. Congrats!
Now what? Although your previous work experience should help you have a successful interview, it’s always a good idea to prepare as much as possible to give yourself the best chance of getting the job.
Schneider’s Human Resources Director Laurie Smith shared a few of her tips and we compiled the below list on how to prepare for a warehouse job interview.
Tips for a successful warehouse job interview
1. Know what hours you can work
Even if you applied for a first shift role, the hiring manager may ask you in the interview if you would be willing to work second, third or other support shifts. Know what your personal schedule looks like ahead of time (especially if you have a second job), so you can answer honestly.
2. Be prepared to discuss your previous employment
It’s almost certain the interviewer will ask you about your work history. Talking about your experiences and what you’ve accomplished will give you a one-up on other applicants.
Also, be ready to discuss why you left or want to leave your current employer.
3. Write a list of questions for the interviewer
Interviews not only give the employer an opportunity to get to know you better, but they give you as the applicant the chance to learn more about the company. Bringing a list of questions you want to ask shows you are serious about the position you applied for and took the time to prepare before the interview.
4. Dress professionally
Although you’ll probably be wearing jeans and boots at work each day, you still need to dress professionally for the job interview. A pair of dress pants and a buttoned-down dress shirt should work just fine.
5. Research the company
There’s a high probability one of the questions you’ll be asked is, “What do you know about this company?” Take some time before the interview to look at the business’ website and even its social media pages. This research will also help you determine if this is the company you truly want to work for.
6. Update your application documents
Bring a few copies of your most updated resume to the interview. You don’t know if it will be one person or a hand full of people interviewing you, so make sure to bring multiple copies so everyone in the room can reference it.
It’s never a bad idea to take along a list of references and a letter of recommendation to the interview as well.
7. Practice, practice, practice
