What to expect when applying for a warehouse job

What to expect when applying for a warehouse job

If you’re thinking about applying for a role in a warehouse, you may be experiencing
anxiety around making this decision. You may be wondering what the application process is like, what questions you’ll be asked in the interview, what the requirements are, etc.

We reached out to Katherine Roberts, an Implementation and Process Manager at Schneider, to learn more about what to expect when applying for a warehouse job.

Although the process may differ a bit based on what company you choose to work for, here is what Katherine said what can generally be expected during the application process.

Filling out a warehouse job application

The application process begins by searching for warehouse job openings at the company you’re applying to. We make this process easy at Schneider by having a page dedicated solely to warehouse job openings.

The next step typically consists of creating a profile on the website of the company you’re applying to. You’ll be asked to insert your general information, such as: name, residence, email address and phone number. You’ll also be asked to create a password for your profile, choose how you prefer to be contacted and complete a basic questionnaire section.

Don’t worry if you have trouble typing. Usually a recruiter will be in contact with you shortly to confirm all your information is correct.

Planning for a warehouse job interview

The recruiter will let you know if you’ve been selected for an interview. At Schneider, someone will either call, email or text to confirm a date and time for your over-the-phone interview.

Prior to your warehouse job interview, spend time practicing with a friend or family member. Have an idea of what experiences you want to mention, and be prepared to answer questions such as:

  • Tell me about a time when you went above and beyond what you were asked to do at work.
  • Tell me about a time when you were unable to reach a desired result or achievement.
  • Have you ever had to work with a difficult coworker? What steps did you take to work effectively with this person?
  • Give me an example of a time you had to learn a new job function. What approach did you take to be successful?

Following these questions, a recruiter will discuss the role requirements. Brainstorm questions you would like to ask the recruiter so you can get a better idea of what you will be doing in the role.

Completing the warehouse pre-work requirements

Although every company may be a little different, most require their warehouse associates to pass warehouse pre-work requirements before starting a new role.

At Schneider, for example, you must complete and pass the following:

  • Hair-follicle drug screen
  • Background screen
  • Physical pre-work screen
  • Some roles may require a written and practical equipment operator exam

Starting your new warehouse job

Once you have passed all pre-work requirements, you will be ready to join your new team. Your recruiter and leader will determine your start date, and you will be on your way to a fulfilling career in a warehouse.

Consider Schneider for your next warehouse job.
