How Schneider's diesel technician training keeps our maintenance team updated with technology

Two Schneider diesel technicians go over information on a clipboard on the shop floor.

One of the most common questions I get when recruiting for our maintenance team is, do you have ongoing diesel technician training? I always think, “Oh boy, do we!” We are constantly training; it is a never-ending cycle. We cover everything from new hires to new technology on the trucks, van accident, refrigerated and even bulk tankers and confined space on the trailers.

3-tiered diesel technician training

  1. Mentorship: Each new diesel technician will work with a mentor to get acclimated to the work and the environment.
  2. Web-based training: These are training modules both created in house and directly from the manufacture.
  3. Live training

Here at Schneider, we have a team dedicated to the ongoing training and development of our diesel technicians. This seven-person team has over 106 years of Schneider experience, with total industry experience topping 125 years! These experts go direct to the manufacturer for new technology training, and they will conform their training to Schneider’s configuration and bring it directly to the shops to train. Each trainer goes through a written test and three instructor-led classes before earning the ability to train. In addition, our master technicians have also passed the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) testing.

This outstanding team has an impact on each and every one of our technicians, bringing them the ongoing training and development they need to advance in their careers. We are extremely grateful and honored to work with such a talented group.
